Oppidum Závist in the 21st Century - New questions and methods for research and education

Anotace anglicky

The project focuses on the cooperation of two scientific departments (Institute of Archeology of the CAS, Prague and University of Bamberg) in the interdisciplinary research of National monument Hradiště and the Celtic oppidum Závist. The main goals of the research are the identification of preserved relics of the architecture of an Iron Age central site, research on past activities in the Iron Age fort, and the analysis of economic strategies of the inhabitants. Another topic of the project aims for the collection of accurate absolute data to determine the age of individual phases of the fort and oppidum. Field research will be carried out thanks to cooperation with a foreign partner by means of non-destructive methods, which will not disturb intact historical terrains. In addition, prospecting using metal detectors will be carried out during the site research, both to obtain data for comparison with other research methods and from a point of view of heritage protection, as local artifacts are threatened by illegal excavations by amateurs using metal detectors. The project aims at the application of modern interdisciplinary methods, thanks to which we expect quality publication outputs in the category of journals with citation impact factors. The project takes into account the involvement of students from the fields of archeology or geochemistry in the form of international practice. The results of the project and the experience gained will also serve as a platform for the development of other follow-up projects. Both partners already have experience with cooperation on the basis of successful International summer school project - see the project appendix (Monitoring Heritage - International Summer School, September 20-24, 2021, BTHA project).
