Word-Formation Aspects of Specialized French in the Humanities: Research and Pedagogical Integration in a Digital Environment

Anotace anglicky

The project aims to systematically examine the specialized vocabulary (lexicon) used in French academic texts in the field of humanities, and to use the findings for the development of innovative instructional tools targeted at non-philological university students. Special focus is placed on word-formation processes contributing to the development of specialized terminology—particularly borrowing, compounding, and derivation—which will be analyzed using the framework of lexicogenic matrices (Sablayrolles, 2019). The project seeks to bridge linguistic research and pedagogical practice by applying the results of lexical analysis directly to the teaching of French for specific and academic purposes (FOS/FOU). The linguistic component will serve as a foundation for the creation of digital instructional materials, including interactive modules, bilingual glossaries, and vocabulary-based exercises, implemented in a digital learning environment (Moodle). Another key goal is the active involvement of young researchers. These young scholars will be engaged in all phases of the project, from corpus design and annotation to linguistic analysis and instructional design.From a scholarly perspective, the project contributes to a deeper understanding of the structure and evolution of specialized French vocabulary and to the development of effective strategies for teaching it in academic settings. It combines research approaches from specialized discourse analysis, lexical morphology, corpus linguistics, and foreign language didactics.The project also includes a clear commitment to publishing two peer-reviewed research articles. The first article will focus on word-formation strategies in French specialized lexicon through the lens of lexicogenic matrices. The second will explore didactic approaches to specialized vocabulary instruction for non-philological students in digital learning environments, with an emphasis on learner autonomy.
