Anotace anglicky

Objectives of the project are closely linked to the main goal of the NAKI III program, the Thematic Priority 3: National and Cultural Identity in Transformation and Exploitation of Cultural Landscape. Cultural landscape transformations and related changes in human activities are fundamental to understanding the development of historic landscape along the Vltava River. Present project builds on the findings of the previous NAKI II project, which revealed a large number of additional topics that remained largely unaddressed. In particular, the project stresses the function of the river, both in terms of a link (transport of people and raw materials) and barrier (the need for fords, ferries, bridges). Both functions have greatly influenced human activities and exploitation of cultural landscape along the river. The project also addresses the subsidiary Thematic Priorities 4. National and Cultural Identity in a Memory Culture of the Nation and 16. Methods of Identification, Documentation, Evidence and Interpretation of National Immovable and Movable Cultural Heritage. For the project we plan to study sources held in institutional collections (archives, museums, libraries) and locally. The main goal of the project is to discuss and present transformations of functions of the Vltava River and related activities on the basis of analysis of a large number of archival materials (documents, maps, photographs) and to build on the existing results by combining and digitizing them. Through utilization of new technologies, this will continue to preserve, document and make accessible a large amount of information regarding the history of the Vltava River, including its cultural heritage. The project will contribute to transferring historical information to education by modern cartographic methods, to preservation of national memory, to shaping of national identity and culture in the broadest, multicultural sense, and to formation of historical consciousness of society.
