Memories of Communism: Dependance of the Formation of Political Identities on the Constructions of Historical Consciousness

Anotace anglicky

The purpose of the project is to provide empirically based findings about patterns of perception, interpretation and current collective valuations of the communist regime. The main research method is a quantitative survey focused on the key components of historical memory in the sense of views on the past and modern history. We expect that this historical experience contributes to the form of historically shaped ("memorized") foundations of specific cultural and political milieu and patterns of collective mentalities of the Czech society and also anticipates a primary social, political and psychological orientation in the present lived reality. Attention will be paid to the nature, type and intensity of presence of the "communism phenomena" in the collective memory or memory of various socio-demographic groups and their reflection as well. Therefore the expression of historical-narrative constructions and representations of the pre-November era (and the year 1989) in the public opinion will be explored in relation to the attributes of political and ideological self-identification.
