Europa Humanistica III. Sigismundus Gelenius (1497–1554) and His Editions and Translations of Ancient Classics
Anotace anglicky
The project will focus on the transmission and reception of ancient texts, while special attention will be paid to the specific methods the prominent Humanist scholar of Bohemian origin Sigismundus Gelenius (1497–1554) adopted in his editions and translations of classical texts. The team will produce three academic essays published Open Access in international peer-reviewed journals, and a monograph. The latter will be published by Brepols Publishers as part of the series Europa Humanistica, Bohemia and Moravia, and will include both an analytical chapter and a critical annotated edition of the paratexts, which well illustrate Gelenius’ methods of editing and translating. Finally, there will also be a chapter dealing with Gelenius’ correspondence, the critical edition of which is yet to be produced, although it yields invaluable information on Gelenius’ scholarly activities and his position in the intellectual community. This project follows up the project GA 19-04340S Europa Humanistica II., supported by GA ČR and successfully completed in 2021.
