The aim of the project is to test the concept of style in the analysis of media dialogues (from interviews and debates to talk shows) and to consider its integrative function. The moderator and guest utilize individual styles, which are in conflict during their interaction. The project addresses the question of whether the result of such a clash can be considered the mixing of styles or whether the specific style of the dialogue arises. The dialogues will be analyzed from the perspective of cooperationand conflict, politeness and impoliteness, impartiality and partiality and other pragmatic variables. The choice of code also contributes greatly to the style. This sociolinguistic issue, i.e. the choice of language variety, the degree to which various types of code-switching are used in the media, is one of the main objects of analytic interest. The project aims to contribute to the discussion surrounding the existence and character of Colloquial Czech, and the variable stylistic values of Common Czech. The result will be a series of articles and the book publication Dialogical styles in the media.
