Global Citizenship Enhances Ecological Responsibility with the Approach of Global Education
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The approaching environmental crisis is calling for practical actions on the ecological turn. It is an important yet difficult question to promote people’s awareness, motivation, and overall engagement. We propose building up and strengthening global citizenship through applicable education programs to enhance ecological responsibility, as the word citizenship implies a more active role. From the psychological perspective, the building up of global citizenship is rooted in identity formation. The cognitive abilities possessed by human beings and modern technological advantages provide a solid basis for developing authentic global citizenship. We take the perspective of the economy to clarify the complexities of social and cultural inequality globally and identify the top-down processes and bottom-up influences in fostering global citizenship. For applicable efforts, we propose both horizontal and vertical approaches. Horizontal ones refer to within generations as broader connections between cultures; vertical ones refer to between generations as long-term education and national cooperation. We aim to discuss the social and psychological basis for global citizenship and emphasize the critical role of individuals in initiating and sustaining constructive changes.
