Annotation of a new edition of letters from the Kalmyk archives of the 18th century written in the Oirat Clear script and accompanied by contemporary Russian translations. The appendices to the edition deal with the functionning of the Office of Kalmyk Affairs, the process of handling the Kalmyk letters and the language peculiarities of the Russian translations. The present annotation looks on the edition from the point of view of Mongolian and Oirat studies and underlines it importance among the few existing editions of Oirat archive sources.
