Het artikel onderzoekt de circulatie van Nederlandse en Vlaamse toneelteksten in Tsjechië in de periode tussen 1898, toen waarschijnlijk de eerste vertaling van een Nederlands toneelstuk gepubliceerd werd, en 1989, het jaar van de Fluwelen revolutie, waarna het culturele veld radicaal veranderd is. Het feit is dat relatief weinig Nederlandstalige stukken naar het Tsjechisch vertaald zijn. Hetzelfde geldt voor de werkelijke producties van deze Tsjechische vertalingen: ze waren eerder sporadisch, met uitzondering van enkele stukken van Herman Heijermans, die nogal regelmatig opgevoerd werden in de eerste decennia van de eeuw. Het artikel brengt de verschillende periodes van de twintigste eeuw in kaart en biedt een beeld van de ontwikkeling van de Tsjechische receptie van Nederlandstalig toneel, inclusief een dramatische mystificatie tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

The article deals with the circulation of Dutch and Flemish dramatic texts in the Czech lands between 1898, when probably, the first translation of a Dutch theatre play was published, and 1989, the year of the Velvet Revolution, after which the cultural field changed radically. It is a fact that relatively few Dutch and Flemish plays have been translated into Czech. The same holds for the actual production of the plays in Czech translation: these were rather sporadic throughout the whole twentieth century, with the exception of several plays by Herman Heijermans, which were staged quite regularly in the first decades of the twentieth century. This article surveys the different periods of the twentieth century and provides an outline of the development of the Czech reception of Dutch and Flemish drama, including a dramatic mystification during WWII.
