Der Beitrag untersucht die Provenienz und Verteilung der Buchsammlung des Schweizer Pfarrers Jakob Ryter (1543-1610) in der Prager Nostitzbibliothek sowie in der Universitätsbibliothek Basel. Die Forschung basiert auf einer detaillierten Untersuchung der Majoratsbibliothek der Grafen von Nostitz und Rieneck, insbesondere ihrer Verbindungen zu schlesischen Bibliotheken und einzelnen Buchbesitzern.Ryters Bibliothek, bestehend aus theologischen und wissenschaftlichen Werken, spiegelt seine intellektuellen Interessen und seine Auseinandersetzung mit dem lutherischen und zwinglianischen Bekenntnis wider. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass sich elf Bände aus Ryters Sammlung in der Nostitzbibliothek befinden, die sich größtenteils mit biblischer Exegese befassen und sowohl lutherische, calvinistische als auch katholische Werke enthalten. Nur ein Band behandelt nicht-theologische Inhalte. Besonders hervorzuheben sind Ryters Anmerkungen und Exlibris, die die Herkunft und Weitergabe seiner Bücher dokumentieren.In der Universitätsbibliothek Basel sind weitere 24 Titel aus Ryters Sammlung in 19 Bänden erhalten. Diese weisen eine größere thematische Vielfalt auf und umfassen neben theologischen Werken auch Dichtung, Belletristik, Philologie, Politik und Naturgeschichte. Einige der Basler Bände stammen aus der Bibliothek des Pfarrers Georg Höltzlin, während andere später von bedeutenden Sammlern wie Remigius Faesch und Johannes Buxtorf erworben wurden.Ein bedeutender Aspekt der Studie ist die Rekonstruktion von Ryters konfessioneller Entwicklung. Ursprünglich lutherisch geprägt, bekannte er sich erst 1598 zur Basler Konfession, nachdem er lange Widerstand gegen die zwinglianische Orthodoxie geleistet hatte. Seine bibliophilen Interessen und seine Stellung als Pfarrer in Liestal führten dazu, dass er sowohl protestantische als auch katholische Autoren rezipierte. Seine Bücher enthalten zahlreich handschriftliche Anmerkungen, Exlibris und Besitzvermerke, die seine intellektuelle Auseinandersetzung mit theologischen und weltlichen Fragen dokumentieren.Besonders faszinierend ist die Frage nach der Provenienz und dem Verbleib der Ryter-Bücher. Während einige Bände klare Besitzspuren aufweisen, bleibt der genaue Weg der Prager Exemplare unklar. Die Forschung hofft, durch zukünftige Archivstudien weitere Erkenntnisse über die Verteilung der Ryter-Bücher in Europa zu gewinnen. Die Nostitzbibliothek, die Universitätsbibliothek Basel und weitere europäische Bibliotheken stellen wertvolle Zeugnisse frühneuzeitlicher Gelehrsamkeit und konfessioneller Buchkultur dar.Die bibliografischen Daten der Ryter-Bücher sind im Rahmen der Provenienzdatenbank PROVENIO online zugänglich, was weiterführende Forschungen ermöglicht und einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Rekonstruktion frühneuzeitlicher Bibliotheken leistet.

The article examines the provenance and distribution of the book collection of the Swiss pastor Jakob Ryter (1543-1610) in the Prague Nostitz Library as well as in the University Library of Basel. The research is based on a detailed study of the Majorat Library of the Counts of Nostitz and Rieneck, particularly its connections to Silesian libraries and individual book owners.Ryter&apos;s library, consisting of theological and scientific works, reflects his intellectual interests and his engagement with Lutheran and Zwinglian confessions. The study reveals that eleven volumes from Ryter&apos;s collection are held in the Nostitz Library, mostly dealing with biblical exegesis and containing works from Lutheran, Calvinist, and Catholic authors. Only one volume is non-theological in content. Particularly noteworthy are Ryter&apos;s annotations and ex libris, which document the origin and transfer of his books.A further 24 titles from Ryter&apos;s collection in 19 volumes are preserved in the University Library of Basel. These exhibit a greater thematic diversity, including not only theological works but also poetry, fiction, philology, politics, and natural history. Some of the Basel volumes originated from the library of Pastor Georg Höltzlin, while others were later acquired by significant collectors such as Remigius Faesch and Johannes Buxtorf.A key aspect of the study is the reconstruction of Ryter&apos;s confessional development. Initially Lutheran, he only professed the Basel Confession in 1598 after prolonged resistance to Zwinglian orthodoxy. His bibliophilic interests and position as a pastor in Liestal led him to engage with both Protestant and Catholic authors. His books contain numerous handwritten annotations, ex libris, and ownership notes that document his intellectual engagement with theological and secular issues.The question of the provenance and fate of Ryter&apos;s books is particularly intriguing. While some volumes show clear traces of ownership, the exact path of the Prague copies remains unclear. The research aims to gain further insights into the distribution of Ryter&apos;s books across Europe through future archival studies. The Nostitz Library, the University Library of Basel, and other European collections provide valuable testimonies to early modern scholarship and confessional book culture.The bibliographic data of Ryter&apos;s books are available online through the PROVENIO provenance database, facilitating further research and making an important contribution to the reconstruction of early modern libraries.
