Het Standaardnederlands bestaat uit drie variëteiten ? het Noord-Nederlands, het Zuid-Nederlands en het Surinaams-Nederlands. Elke variëteit heeft haar eigen karakter en geschiedenis. In deze bijdrage wordt de vraag gesteld welke van de twee variëteitengesproken in de Lage Landen het beste aan de studenten Nederlands als vreemde taal kan worden gedoceerd en meer bepaald welke van de twee gesproken variëteiteiten voorkeur geniet als een norm in een uitspraakcursus. Andere taalniveaus, zoals morfologie,syntaxis enz. worden hier buiten beschouwing gelaten. Deze bijdrage vormt tevens een hoofdstuk van het dissertatieonderzoek naar de uitspraak van het Nederlands. Het onderzoek is toegspitst op de Tsjechische studenten van het Nederlands en de de uitleg over de taalsituatie en taalgeschiedenis in de Lage Landen wordt daarom uitgebreider.

Standard Dutch has three varieties - the Northern Dutch, the Southern Dutch and Surinamese- Dutch . Each variety has its own character and history. In this article the question is asked which of the two varieties spoken in the Low Countries is the most efficient for the Czech students of Dutch and more specifically which of two spoken varieties should gain preference. Different language levels, such as morphology, syntax, etc. are not considered here . This contribution forms also a chapter of the dissertation research on the pronunciation of Dutch by Czech speakers. The the explanation of the language situation and language history in the Low Countries is therefore for the Czech context extensive. The history of the development of the Standard language is outlined and the varieties are described that exist in the contemporary Low Countries. The varieties the students come to contact with are described as well.
