Josef Bojislav Pichl about the interest in Polish literature and his anthology Společenský krasořečník český

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Revolution in Warsaw and the events in Poland in the thirties of the 19th century were interesting for the young generation. Students interested not only in Polish literature but also in the political situation in this country. Josef Bojislav Pichl also had the chance to meet the nobles retreating across Prague from Poland to France after a failed uprising and to provide small support to them. All of this influenced him during his youth.Pichl´s anthology of the Czech, European and Slavic poetry Společenský krasořečník český. (1852-3) represents the contemporary aesthetic taste based on the romantic interest in the history. The third volume of Společenský krasořečník český. Anthologia. (1853) presents important European authors of the poetry including numerous translations from Slavic languages and especially of Polish romantic authors. The selection of the Polish poetry opens a poem by the Earl Leszek Dunin-Borkowski Národní písně slovanské. Most of this part are the works of Adam Mickiewicz. He is represented with his poems whose titles are (in Czech language) Óda na mladost, Rybička, Vojvoda na čekání and Útěk, translated by various authors. There are two poems by Odyniec (Kořist Litvínova, Chocholík) and Chodźko (Upír and Zamyšlená), when Josef Bojislav Pichl translated Chocholík from Odyniec and Zamyšlená from Chodźko. This poem, as many others, has been published previously. Pichl translated it and released it in the 1930s in the magazine Květy. There are also Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz´ poems in Anthologia - Duma o Žukovském and Duma o Štěpánu Potockém. Last one was translated by Josef Bojislav Pichl. The entire collection clearly represents the aesthetics feelings of this period, as weel as an interest in ancient, Renaissance poetry and also the authors of the European and Russian romanticism.
