Die Studie untersucht Jakob Julius Davids prekäre Position in der Wiener Literaturszene um 1900: Dies bedeutet einerseits eine Untersuchung seiner öffentlich-medialen Positionierung und Inszenierung zwischen 1882 und 1900, und andererseits eine Untersuchung ausgewählter literarischer Texte Davids im Hinblick auf Abweichungen und Gemeinsamkeiten mit den Praktiken und der Ästhetik von Jung-Wien. Die Methode umfasst die Erarbeitung von Davids literarischer und poetologischer Positionierung in Zeitungen und Zeitschriften der 1880er und 1890er Jahre sowie die Untersuchung ausgewählter literarischer Publikationen der Zeit. Die folgenden Ausführungen bieten Einblicke in das Dissertationsprojekt: Neben theoretischen Überlegungen und einer textanalytischen Probe wird Davids Art der Selbstdarstellung und Inszenierung jener von Hermann Bahr gegenübergestellt.

T he study examines Jakob Julius David’s precarious position in the Viennese literary scene around 1900: on the one hand, this means an examination of his public -media positioning and staging between 1882 and 1900, and on the other, an examination of selected literary texts by David with a view to deviations and similarities with the practices and aesthetics of Jung -Wien. The method includes the elaboration of David’s literary and poetological positioning in newspapers and magazines of the 1880s and 1890s and the examination of selected literary publications of the time. The following remarks offer insights into the dissertation project: in addition to theoretical considerations and a text -analytical sample, David’s mode of self -portrayal and staging is contrasted with that of Hermann Bahr.
