In den letzten Jahren wird im Hochschulfach Deutsch als Fremdsprache eine intensive Diskussion hinsichtlich gewisser Defizite bei der Kulturvermittlung geführt, die das Ziel verfolgt, kulturbezogene Inhalte in den DaF-Unterricht zu (re)integrieren. Im Beitrag wird auf die Gründe des wenig zufriedenstellenden Ist-Zustandes eingegangen und auf die wichtige Rolle kulturwissenschaftlicher Theoriebildung für den DaF-Unterricht und das Potenzial des Konzeptes der Linguistic Landscapes hingewiesen, das auf kulturwissenschaftlicher Basis bereits ausgearbeitet ist und neue Perspektiven für einen Fremdsprachenunterricht eröffnet, der den engen Zusammenhang von Sprache und Kultur akzentuieren möchte. Im zweiten Teil des Beitrags wird das didaktische Potenzial dieses Konzepts an einigen konkreten Unterrichtsvorschlägen verdeutlicht.

In recent years, German as a foreign language (DaF) has been intensively debated with regard to certain deficits in cultural mediation, with the aim of (re-)integrating cultural content in teaching DaF. This article discusses the reasons for the unsatisfactory state of affairs, and points out the important role of Cultural Theory in teaching, and the potential use of the concept of Linguistic Landscapes (as developed in Cultural Studies) to open up new perspectives for DaF teaching by accentuating the close connection between language and culture. In the second part of the paper the didactic potential of this concept is clarified by introducing several suggestions for lessons.
