INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH OF PAINTING TECHNIQUE OF JOSEF CEREGETTI ON SELECTED ARTWORKS
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The topic of this paper is a complex scientific research of painting technique and technology used by Josef Ceregetti, a distinguished painter of the second half of the 18th century from Chrudim. Up-to-date non-invasive imaging and analytical methods were employed during investigation of four paintings of the Stations of the Cross from the Priory church in Litomyšl and of two portraits from the collection of the Regional museum in Chrudim. Micro-sampling followed by material analysis were performed on the basis of non-invasive survey. Ceregetti´s use of colour, depiction of light and shadow, variations in glazes and impastos and the artist´s brushwork are all discussed in detail. A surprising pentimenti is reported. All those results help to evaluate Ceregetti as an important regional successor of traditional technique of painting on dark coloured ground, a technique developed in northern Italy during the second half of the 16th century.
