Diverse pronunciation results elicited by means of three different test types
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The purpose of this chapter is to evaluate the level of difficulty of three different tests aiming to elicit pronunciation data focusing on English segmental features such as the front open vowel ash (apple), the weak central mid vowel schwa (again), thevoiced and voiceless dental fricatives (then, threw), the bilabial approximant (away), the velar nasal (long), and the pronunciation of word-final voiced consonants (bag) and (bed). Three different recordings obtained from 112 students of English from 3Czech universities were analysed. The difficulty index (pi), which tells us the percentage of test takers whose answers are correct (Bachman 2004, 140), is chosen as a viable option. The overall average percentage for three different tests are correlated (paired t-test). So far analysed data provided by 112 students in autumn 2013 suggest that overall Czech learners receive lower success score for a read continuous text than for a carefully pronounced list of words, which is confirmed b
