Der Artikel stellt ein Projekt vor, in dem Studierende unter Anleitung eigenständige Projekte zu sieben europäischen Kulturhauptstädten konzipierten und durchführten. Als theoretisch-konzeptioneller Rahmen diente der "Raum" als soziales Konstrukt und als Kategorie kollektiver Bedeutungszuschreibungen. Die europäische Stadt ist als ein Palimpsest zu verstehen, in dem verschiedene ethnische Gruppen und Sprachgemeinschaften den städtischen Raum und die materiellen Relikte verschiedener historischer Epochen prägten. Ein Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem "kulturellen Gedächtnis", das die Erinnerung an die ehemalige deutsche Bevölkerung in Mittelosteuropa in literarischen Texten wachhält.

The article presents a project in which students under guidance designed and carried out independent projects on seven European Capitals of Culture. As a theoretical conceptual framework, "space" served as a social construct and as a category of collective attributions of meaning. The European city is to be understood as a palimpsest in which various ethnic groups and language communities formed the urban space and material relics of different historical periods. One focus is on "cultural memory", keeping alive the memory of the former German population in Central Eastern Europe in literary texts.
