Real Driving Speed in Relation to Horizontal Curves’ Parameters
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Horizontal curves are very important elements of horizontal alignment, horizontal curves create road bendiness and according to bendiness, drivers choose driving speed. To proper design of other design elements dependent on speed (like sight distances), design speed has to be similar to real driving speed. Another aspect is cost-effective, if we could lower minimal design radius of horizontal curves, road designing would be more adaptable to real conditions, which means roads will be cheaper. Research aims to verify, how real driving speed corresponds to design speed from standards and what is the relationship between real driving speed and other curves’ parameters like longitudinal slope, superelevation, traffic lane width or deflection angle. Real driving speeds measurement was done by statistical radars, measurement happened in 35 different horizontal curves with different parameters. Main relationships which research aimed for, found and proved were correlation between driving speed and deflection angle and correlation between driving speed and curve radius. On the other hand, correlation between driving speed, longitudinal slope and cross slope wasn’t found.
