Reliability and functionality are the most important requirements in process control. The contribution deals with basis terms, requirements and possible solutions. It also mediates a look into the standardisation process in problems of safety oriented automation. On one example are specified functions of different levels of automatic protection systems in process control. The last part of contribution deals with problems of reliable SW for distributed control systems.
