There has been a very dynamic development of project management in recent years. One reason is continued globalization and market interconnection, another reason is the technological development and the development of new technologies. There are many challenges that project managers must encounter. Managing and leading the projects is a challenge for the project managers and it becomes difficult to meet the goals of the project, once the project changes from local to global. As companies worldwide are moving more and more forward a virtual business model, this paper offers insight for project managers and their teams who collaborate on projects from geographically diverse locations. Another interesting challenge nowadays is to manage start up projects that are very common. The is explanation of managing intercultural teams, virtual teams and advice on how to coach and develop team members with success from far – off locations are given in this paper. The benefit of this paper is tips for project managers that are based on experience with these specific environments.
