In Central and East European (CEE) countries, the quality of educational provision has for a long time been typically associated with the regulatory role of programme accreditation. However, in contrast, other measures with a quality enhancement functioncan be identified in CEE contexts. In Czech higher education, this enhancement-oriented function entails the application of a variety of instruments, ranging from external evaluation by the Accreditation Commission, via incentives through specific funding schemes, capacity-building international cooperation, to the presentation of information. Correspondingly, this chapter analyses different aspects of the application of these instruments, outlines their effects, and discusses the pros and cons of their use in policy practice.
