Czech and Slovak Educators' Online Teaching Experience: A Covid-19 Case Study
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The surge in interest in online teaching increased not only due the pandemic. Online teaching, distance learning, open online courses has grown exponentially. The central objective of this research is to explore how online teaching is changing among educators of Czech and Slovak universities. It addresses their experience and opinions in the period from the first days of COVID-19 lockdown (March 2020) till the peak of its second wave (May 2021). In the study, a quantitative approach has been applied. To examine the impact of disharmony, authors investigated two groups of educators (Czech and Slovak) handled their movement to online teaching. A total of 172 educators participated in our online survey. Results revealed that teaching online has become a fundamental component of education. It demonstrated their low preparation for this unexpected event as well as their quick adaption to the new situation. Additionally, data indicates experience difficulties reconciling their modes and teaching practices with online teaching. Finally, they show that many of them are still sceptical about the future of online education and dream about return to traditional teaching. The results indicate that the universities should facilitate their efforts in developing online education methodology and its overall support.
