Este libro trata de describir y explicar todas las operaciones de selección modal entre subjuntivo e indicativo en espaňol desde el contraste con una lengua sin subjuntivo, como es el checo. Desde el punto de vista del análisis lingüístico, ello hace salir a flote las diversas funciones de la oposición entre modos. Desde el punto de vista del aprendizaje práctico para los checos, permite dar un tratamiento menos memorístico, ya que la traducción de cada ejemplo se presenta en forma de regla razonada para un amplio inventario de estructuras. En la primera parte, se ofrece un resumen crítico de las teorías relativas a la oposición entre los modos en general, tanto en espaňol como en checo, resaltando los puntos más polémicos de la propia definición de los modos en general y el subjuntivo en particular.

The Spanish subjunctive and its equivalent in Czech

The aim of this book is to describe and explain the use of the indicative and subjunctive moods in Spanish and compare this with a language which lacks the subjunctive, namely Czech. From a linguistic point of view, these two moods convey a number of different meanings. For Czech speakers learning Spanish, the contrastive approach seems to be highly practical as the translation of model sentences enables various rules to be explained which are applicable to a wide range of structures. The first part ofthe book surveys theories that deal with the general differences between various grammatical moods, in Spanish and Czech. Various approaches to the definition of moods in general and subjunctive in particular are emphasized. The subsequent chapters describe the individual syntactic structures in Spanish, with an explanation of the use of moods in this language.
