Le grammatiche italiane moderne mirano non solo alla descrizione della struttura della lingua italiana ma dedicano più spazio alle funzioni degli elementi morfosintattici del sistema della lingua italiana. Eppure uno dei settori della pragmalinguistica, quello della struttura informativa della frase, viene inglobato in esse scarsamente o non del tutto sistematicamente. E’ stato Jan Firbas ad elaborare tutti gli aspetti della teoria della struttura informativa della frase. Le sue ricerche risultano nella conclusione che la struttura informativa della frase è determinata dalla cooperazione di quattro fattori: contesto, ordine dei costituenti, semantica e intonazione nella lingua parlata. Sebbene nelle recenti grammatiche italiane ne vengano menzionati tre (contesto, ordine delle parole e intonazione), l’attenzione più approfondita è dedicata solo all’ordine delle parole senza riguardo all’interazione tra di loro. Il capitolo si concentra sulle osservazioni sulla misura in cui diversi concetti della teoria della struttura informativa vengono inglobati e applicati in alcune grammatiche italiane.

Modern Italian grammars discuss not only the description of the structure of the Italian language, but also devote space to the functions of individual morphosyntactic elements of the entire language system. However, they do not deal with the information structure of the sentence, one of the areas of pragmalinguistics, in a sufficiently systematic and in-depth manner. It was Jan Firbas who elaborated all the aspects of this theory. In his research, he concluded that four factors determine the information structure of the sentence: context, word order arrangement of the sentence constituents, semantics and intonation in spoken language. Although three of them are mentioned in modern Italian grammars, more attention is dedicated only to the word order, without taking into account the interaction of all the mentioned factors. The chapter focuses on tracing the extent to which notions of sentence information structure are followed and applied in some Italian grammars.
