Competences of nurses in professional and ethical values

In the three-year (2010-2013) project Innovation of the Nursing Study Programme at the Silesian University in Opava, CZ.1.07/2.2.00/15.0178, in the Education for Competitiveness Operational Programme, a handbook of General Nurse competences was prepared with description of pertinent criteria for successful achievement. The document was prepared by the project team with respect to key documents in the area: National Qualifications Framework for Tertiary Education in the Czech Republic; National Occupations System; Code of Ethics for Non-Medical Health Professionals and Code of Ethics for Nurses. Competences were described in harmony with learning outcomes in particular modules and were subsequently integrated in the innovated clinical practice logbook. The competencies are divided into four major domains, one of which is domain 1: Professional and Ethical Values. The latter domain comprises nine competences along with assessment criteria. Such information is important for students, the faculty and mentors who oversee students in their clinical placements.
