Evaluation of ball handling skills in children at school age - the difference between boys and girls

This paper reports on the evaluation of ball-handling skills. The previous research on this topic recommended to design two or three more items of rating scale to complete the set of items. In this paper, the subjects were children 9 to 11 years old in urban public schools in the Czech Republic. One hundred and thirty–four children participated on it. The scale developed in this paper describes the amount of ball-handling skills of the children. The results indicate that this scale is relatively homogenous with respect to its content. To indicate the replicability of items if the scale is given to another sample, the item reliability index was provided. To examine whether the items have different meanings for the different groups of interest, theestimates of the items measures were compared across two distinct groups (boys and girls). The differential item functioning has been used. The findings report on this difference.
