Während Elisabeth Reicharts Frühwerk die Strömung der Antiheimatliteratur mitprägte, erweiterte die österreichische Autorin in ihren Romanen nach 2000 die Gesellschaftskritik auf andere Länder. Dabei stützt sich die promovierte Historikerin immer wieder auf historische Begebenheiten. In "Das Haus der sterbenden Männer" (2005) löst der Fall des Eisernen Vorhangs die Rückkehr der Hauptfigur in die Heimat aus, um sich einer traumatischen Erfahrung zu stellen. Antonias Aufenthalt im ,Niemandsland‘ an der tschechisch-österreichischen Grenze nimmt ihre Identitätssuche vorweg. Die Protagonistin in "Die unsichtbare Fotografin" (2008) ist hingegen eine Kosmopolitin. Indem sie diversen Aufträgen nachreist, wechselt sie die Länder; sie ist überall und nirgends zu Hause. Die thematisierte Globalisierung wirkt sich auf die Romanstruktur aus, da mit den bereisten Städten aktuelle Probleme vor Ort kritisch behandelt werden. In "Frühstück bei Fortuna" (2016) greift Reichart das Thema der ,Migrationskrise‘ von 2015 auf und fokussiert wieder Österreich, das seine Grenzen den Flüchtlingen verschließt und zur Festung wird.

While Elisabeth Reichart's early work helped to shape the movement of 'antiheimat' literature, the Austrian author extended her social criticism to other countries in her novels after 2000. In doing so, she repeatedly draws on historical events. In ‘Das Haus der sterbenden Männer’ (2005), the fall of the Iron Curtain triggers the main character's return home to confront a traumatic experience. Antonia's stay in ‘no man's land’ on the Czech-Austrian border anticipates her search for identity. On the other hand, the protagonist in ‘Die unsichtbare Fotografin’ (2008) is a cosmopolitan. She travels on various assignments and changes countries; she is at home everywhere and nowhere. The motif of globalisation affects the novel!s structure, as the cities the protagonist travels to give rise to adressing current problems critically. In ‘Frühstück bei Fortuna’ (2016), Reichart takes up the theme of the ‘migration crisis’ of 2015 and once again focuses on Austria, which closes its borders to refugees and becomes a fortress.
