Suspension design and tire modelling of Formula SAE

The paper deals with the kinematical modelling and optimization of suspension for the Formula SAE car developed at University of West Bohemia. Important kinematic variables are briefly described and an optimization procedure in order to improve suspension kinematics is introduced. Results of the optimization lead to the successful design of the real vehicle. The paper is further aimed at the dynamical modelling of the full vehicle, where the most important elements are tires. Therefore the tire modelling approaches and identification of proper model parameters are described. The identified tire model together with optimized suspension are used in the numerical simulations of the full vehicle for sake of handling and stability evaluation.
