Das beschriebene Dialogsystem repräsentiert eine neue Qualitätsebene in der Entwicklung moderner Dialogsysteme. Die Kommunikation mit Benutzer erfolgt hier über den akustischen Kanal (mittels einer Mikrophon/Lautsprecher-Anlage oder über ein Telephon). Multifunktionalität und Mehrsprachigkeit gehören zu den wichtigsten Eigenschaften des vorgestellten Systems. Der Prototyp wurde im Rahmen des "Copernicus" Projektes "SQEL" (Spoken Queries in European Languages) in der Zusammenarbeit der vier Projektpartners entwickelt und bietet die Informationen von den beschränkten Anwendungsbereichen (Flug- und Eisenbahnverkehr) in vier Europäischen (deutscher, tschechischer, slowakischer und slowenischer) Sprachen an.

The focus of the article is the development of a multilingual interactive information retrieval dialog system, in which spoken natural language is the primary means of communication. A prototype of the information retrieval dialog system developed withinthe framework of the "Copernicus" Project "SQEL" (Spoken Queries in European Languages) carries continuously spoken human-machine dialogs utilizing speech input and output techniquesit is completely integrated and operational on a single workstation.
