Inquiry based biology education in the Czech Republic: A reflection of five years dissemination

Dissemination and implementation of inquiry based biology education (IBBE) in the Czech Republic were initiated by European international project S-TEAM in the 2010. We arranged three subsequent weekly summer schools of IBBE (2010, 2011, and 2012) addressed to teacher educators and pre-service students from Czech universities. The course had two main goals: (1) to offer innovative teaching approaches in biology and natural science education and (2) create a network of teachers from primary and secondaryschools from the region of South Bohemia. About 50 regional schools and 70 teachers were involved in this project. More than 15 university teachers and biology scientists have prepared 44 tasks and activities mainly based on inquiry learning. The practical impact of the School of IBBE can be regarded as significant. After attendance this course teachers has begun using inquiry learning in their school lessons (or they use inquiry more frequently than before did). The fact that participa
