In connection with the globalization and the spread of foreign sales chains onto regional markets the production of domestic food, its promotion and assertion on the domestic market is becoming a highly charged issue in many countries. The possibilitiesof domestically produced foodstuffs are from the perspective of national market protection rather limited. Producers and processors as well as vendors seek ways of offering this food on the market and effectively influence consumers? behaviour. Concertedresearch taking place on the Czech and Slovak food market and focused on the consumers' preferences when choosing food brings new possibilities for the creation of regional brands. A significant portion of consumers prefer locally made food; they are interested in the ingredients and health impacts.
