Students applying for study at the Faculty of Economics of the University of South Bohemia prove to have very different levels of knowledge of languages, especially of English language. Due to this fact, it is difficult to set a range of levels of teaching to help them avoid making mistakes. They also do not realize that after 4-8 years of study of a language, they still make mistakes. Therefore, when providing teaching, the Department of Languages focuses mostly on an individual approach to the students' needs. The teachers at the department have created a programme in the Moodle e-learning environment to serve as a tool for practising, testing and assessing their knowledge. Computer programmes proved to be a better tool for assessment because of thesame levels of requirement and their objectivity. For the final credit test, the "Placement test" Oxford University Press is used. Assessment is given within international standards according to the Common European Framework of Reference
