Risk management of increased workload of air traffic controllers

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

The article deals with the risk management of the increased workload of air traffic controllers. Brainstorming methods, expert estimates and event tree analysis were used. Using the mentioned methods, 6 hazards and the resulting 11 risks were identified, which were assessed according to the security risk assessment matrix. One of the identified risks was assessed as unacceptable and 7 risks were assessed as tolerable. One unacceptable risk and a high number of tolerable risks indicate the necessary need to take corrective measures and to take a proactive approach to risk reduction. The conclusion of this work and risk analysis further shows that despite extremely unlikely risks such as a collision between aircraft, it is important to consider and address less serious but more likely risks such as insufficient coordination between controllers and pilots or reduced attention and concentration. Using standard aviation phraseology is key to minimizing misunderstandings, but it's also important to implement stress management and wellness programs to reduce the risk of failure to respond to changing situations. ATCos workload regulation is also essential to maintain optimal levels of performance and attention, especially in high-traffic environments. Last but not least, it is important to train ATCos in response to emergency situations and emphasize the importance of quick and effective communication and decision-making.
