Beer is an important source of chief crucial nutritional compounds such as carbohydrates and proteins. Therefore, beer has become an indispensable part of the diet in many cultures. Apart from carbohydrates and proteins, also alcohol and glycerol contribute to the total energy value of beer. The rules for food labelling and calculation of the energy value are applicable to all food and beverages including beer. These rules are defined in Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 of the European parliament and of the Council. The presentation provides a brief overview of energy value of various types of beer and compares it with other beverages. Further, the assessment of individual components contributing to the total energy value of beer is performed. Finally, wehave developed a new method for determination of energy value of beer, which is more effective and accurate comparing with two current methods. The presentation was introduced on the 14th International Nutrition & Diagnostics Conference
