The paper deals with the students retention in higher education and its aim is to confirm the practicability of the general retention calculation´s formula for the U.S. in the context of the Czech higher education. In the beginning we shortly explain thebasic terms, the importance of students´ retention measurement at institutions of higher education in general, and we describe some of the approaches used in the U.S. institutions. At the other part of paper we use the method of scenarios and we evaluate the differences between U.S. and Czech context of higher education based on students´ scenarios. To meet the aim of the paper we use the methods of the content analysis, method of scenario, analysis and synthesis, basic deduction method, and interview.
