Recently, the emphasis is to promote education and knowledge transfer in agriculture. This education should be effective. It is necessary that the financial resources expended on the education and transfer of knowledge are an investment and not a cost. This paper focuses on measuring the time-consuming codification of knowledge in the field of composting. Codification is performed using three representations of knowledge - production rules, semantic networks and knowledge units. The aim is to determinewhich representation is the most effective in terms of codification and its time-consumption. In the future this most effective representation will be used for creating educational texts that is useful for farmers and generally could be useful for otherprofessions too. The educational texts may be the basis for a future knowledge system focused on the problem domain in agriculture in the Czech Republic.
