The aim of the paper is to describe the results of the empirical survey focused on evaluation of selected aspects of didactic competence of university teachers. Three areas of didactic competence are subject of the survey: (a) comprehensibility of teaching and learning, (b) motivation of students by the teacher, (c) space for discussion and expression of students opinions. The target group consists of students of bachelor and master study programmes of technical fields. A sample of the empirical survey was selected on the basis of intentional selection. The survey took place at one university in the Czech Republic. Using the questionnaire students evaluated their teachers in the three mentioned areas of didactic competence of teachers. The aim of the survey was to find out: (a) in which of the three areas of didactic competence the teachers are the best and the worst evaluated, (b) whether and how big differences exist between teachers who have or do not have a pedagogical education.
