Die Ausstellung von Computerkunst, die 1968 in der Tschechoslowakei stattgefunden hat und in diesem Jahr von der Mährischen Galerie in Brno unter dem Titel „1968.computer.art“ rekonstruiert wurde, hat einen bedeutenden Beitrag zum Abbau der vom Kalten Krieg geschaffenen kulturellen Dichotomie geliefert. Nicht jedoch als Ausnahme, die – wie die Organisatoren der Rekonstruktion betonen – ähnliche Ausstellungen in Zagreb oder London übertraf, sondern als Regel, wonach den unterschiedlichen geopolitischen Bedingungen zum Trotz die utopischen Visionen der historischen Avantgarde zurückkehren und zugleich versagen. Erweist sich doch der Einsatz eines Computers beim Schaffen gemalter Bilder bis zu einem gewissen Grad als Vorwegnahme des aktuellen Interesses an transitiven Verfahren im Medium der Malerei, während die Computergrafik damals wie heute als Sackgasse erscheint.

The exhibition of computer art, which took place in Czechoslovakia in 1968 and whose reconstruction was dedicated this year's exhibition "1968.computer.art" in the Moravian Gallery, was an important contribution to the disruption of cultural dichotomies created by the Cold War. But not as an exception that, as the organizers of the reconstruction point out, that preceded a similar expositions in Zagreb or London, but as a rule that, despite the different geopolitical conditions, there is a return and failure of the utopian visions of the historical avant-garde. If the use of a computer to produce painted images appears to be productive and to a certain degree anticipating the current interest in transitive practices in the media of painting, then computer graphics, as it turned out today, were a dead end.
