    The effects of feed composition on the nutritional value of edible insects are still quite unexplored, especially in terms of bioactive compounds and micronutrients profiles. Complementing knowledge in this field is particularly desirable for the future production of quality and safe edible insects.In this study, two experiments were performed examining changes in the composition of Jamaican field cricket (Gryllus assimilis) biomass after altering the feed composition. Attention was paid especially to the transfer of bioactive compounds (possessing either positive or negative effect on consumers). Within the first set of experiments, five groups of Jamaican field cricket were fed for different periods of time by feed supplemented by carrot. The second experiment was focused on changes of cricket metabolome after the replacement of the protein component of the feed (soya) by rapeseed meal in growing degree, the aim in this case was to test possible use of by-products from rapeseed oil production. For the evaluation of the changes in cricket biomass, the metabolomic analysis using ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry with the subsequent multivariate statistical analysis was performed.In both experiments, it was possible to distinguish the groups of Jamaican field cricket according to the feed composition. In the first experiment, transfer of β-carotene and various other carotenoids (phytoene, β-apo-14’-carotenal, cryptoxanthin) from feed to insects were observed. As regards second experiment, transition of sinapine into the cricket tissue was observed. Although this compound has antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, its bitterness can negatively affect the taste of the final product. On the other hand, antinutritious glucosinolate goitrin was not confirmed in any of tested samples.This study comprehensively describes changes in cricket metabolome after modifying the feed composition. The results can contribute to the optimization of edible insect breeding to achieve its enrichment with beneficial substances.
