Die Monografie befasst sich mit der Textverständlichkeit in Abhängigkeit von ausgewählten Aspekten der Textstruktur und vom Vorkommen anderer Optimierungsmittel im Text. Die Studie besteht aus zwei Hauptteilen. Der theoretische Teil widmet sich den Textverständlichkeitskonzepten unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Textstruktur, stellt verschiedene Auffassungen der Textstruktur einander gegenüber und charakterisiert Spezifika der Fachkommunikation. Der analytische Teil stellt Ergebnisse der linguistischen Analyse von Texten vor, die zu verschiedenen Ebenen der Fachkommunikation gehören: es werden wissenschaftliche und populärwissenschaftliche Texte mit einer ähnlichen Thematik aus dem Bereich der Verhaltensbiologie analysiert. In diesen Texten werdenzuerst Einflüsse der einzelnen Elemente der Textstruktur auf die Textverständlichkeit und anschließend die Differenzen in der Textstruktur und in den Strategien im Rahmen anderer Dimensionen der Textverständlichkeit untersucht.

The monograph explores text comprehensibility in relation to selected aspects of textual structure and the occurrence of other means of optimization in texts. The publication consists of two main parts. The theoretical part outlines the concept of comprehensibility with a focus on textual structure, comparing and contrasting various approaches to textual structure and characterizing the specific features of professional communication. The analytical part presents the results of a linguistic analysis oftexts belonging to different types of communication on specialist topics: expert texts and popular scientific texts on similar topics from the field of ethology. The analysis first investigates the influence of individual elements of textual structure onthe text´s comprehensibility. It then moves on to explore differences in structure and strategies with regard to other dimensions of comprehensibility.
