I examine anew David Benatarʼs Betternes Thesis (BT), according to which it would have been better never to come into existence. Arguing that he has failed to provide BT with a coherent meaning, I propose to replace BT with the Regret Thesis (RT), according to which it would be rational to be sorry for oneself because of one's having come into existence. Explaining subsequently Benatar's basic asymmetry between harms and benefits, I find dubious, unlike other critics, not the asymmetry itself but rather Benatar's transition from the asymmetry to BT. The transition remains dubious even if (the unclear) BT is replaced with (the relatively clear) RT. I conclude by reminding why RT is probably false and so does not follow from the asymmetry. I cannot say this about BT as it escapes my comprehension.
