The article outlines the differences that occur in the teaching of mathematical subjects with regard to whether they are taught for mathematics students or for students of non-mathematical disciplines. Our experience and suggestions for improving the motivation of both sets of students are presented through the use of mathematics linked to their area of study and relevant word problems.
