The form of the admission examination in mathematics at the technical faculties of the VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava is fixed already form for very long time. The current examination consists of 6 open problems testing the basic knowledges that are necessary for the studies of mathematics, physics and other subjects at the technical university. This current form we replace by the test with 20 questions. Each question offers four possible answers whereas the only one of these is correct. The key arguments for this modification are mentioned in the text. The presented admission examination we have tested at first on students of the current first form at four faculties of the VŠB - TUO. We have also studied the influence of the type of the secondary school and of the school-leaving examination graduating to the test results. In this paper we confine to the descriptive statistics of the obtained results.
