Purpose Estrogen effects mediated through the nuclear receptors (ER and ER) are predominantly implemented via genomic mechanism. ERs interact as transcript factors with estrogen responsive elements in target genes and evoke cellular response within hours. However, rapid cellular responses with a time lag of minutes or seconds do not involve the gen transcription and act presumably at the cell membrane. They result in activation of second messengers and kinase cascades signaling pathways, transactivationof EGFR, ect. Lately a high affinity receptor for estrogenic compounds has been identified as an orphan membrane G-protein coupled receptor 30 (GPR30). GPR30 acts independent of the nuclear receptors and suggests new approaches to contraceptives and hormonal targeted cancer therapy. The purpose of this study was to characterize expression and tissue distribution of GPR30 mRNA and its protein in endometrium during the menstrual cycle and during a pregnancy.
