The historically unprecedented ageing of the Czech population evokes a huge challenge for our society and all major social actors. Media, as the main transmitters of information in contemporary societies and actors constructing reality, play major role in the signification of the old age and ageing. This chapter summarizes development of geriatry, social gerontology and sociology of old age in the Czech Republic. As a second topic it focuses representation of old people and ole age in media and media uses of old people.
