The article deals with the well-known in many cultures, ancient magical gesture - fig, its origin, semiotic polysemy in different societies, correlation of genetic and typological features in the perception and interpretation of this mean of non-verbal communication by Ukrainian linguocultural community. The interaction between verbal and non-verbal components in the cultural and lingual semantics of fig, its functioning as a famous verbal and non-verbal symbol of Ukrainian linguocultural space, as wellas some semiotic and semantic transformations of this gesture in national and cultural consciousness of the Ukrainians are studied here. Symbolism of fig gesture is studied here from the point of view of the problems of conflict and non-conflict communication as well as from the standpoint of linguistic ecology.
