De meeste moderne studenten zullen de naam van Jo van Ammers-Küller (1884-1966) niet kennen. Als haar naam al in de handboeken wordt vermeld, is deze vermelding meestal negatief - gebrek aan psychologische diepgang, te oppervlakkig verhaal, eerder geapprecieerd door huisvrouwen dan door literaire critici zijn terugkerende opmerkingen. De receptie is zeker ten dele onde rinvloed van Van Ammers-Küllers collaboratie tijdens WO II. Desniettemin was zij een van de meest succesvolle schrijfsters van het interbellum. Ze was lid van het bestuur van PEN-Nederland en zeker de meest vertaalde Nederlandse auteur van die periode. Vrijwel al haar werk is in het Duits en Pools vertaald, veel gedurende WO II ook in het Hongaars. Interessant genoeg is vrijwel niets inhet Tsjechisch vertaald. Most modern students will not know the name of Jo van Ammers-Küller (1884-1966). If something is noted in literary histories, this is mostly negative - no psychological depth, too circumstantial narrative, more appreciated by ordinary female readers thanby literary critics. A certain role played the fact that Van Ammers-Küller collaborated during World War II. Nevertheless, Van Ammers-Küller was one of the most successful female writers in the between-war period. She was a member of the board of PEN Netherlands and certainly the most translated Dutch author of that time. Nearly all her work was translated into German and Polish, much of it during World War II also into Hungarian. Interesting is that just two works were translated into Czech. Importantis her active but in the same time very female attitude as a feminist writer, avoiding too big aggressiveness towards the other sex. This was the major appeal of her work for German and Polish readers and presumably exactly the point why
