While the European avant-garde is often associated with a rejection of the past, the case of Dada in Zurich indicates the opposite. This is evidenced by the interest in medieval culture as a source of inspiration for avant-garde artistic and literary practices, in Dada as in adjacent avant-garde movements, but also after the Second World War, such as Asger Jorn's "comparative vandalism" in the context of Cobra and the documents of the Situationist International.
