In deze bijdrage wordt een corpusonderzoek beschreven dat gericht is op overeenkomsten en verschillen in de combinatiemogelijkheden van de tegengestelde bijvoeglijke naamwoorden rijk en arm in het Nederlands en hun equivalenten bohatý en chudý in het Tsjechisch. Eerst wordt speciale aandacht besteed aan collocaties, die gevormd worden door deze bijvoeglijke naamwoorden en zelfstandige naamwoorden. Vervolgens worden nog combinaties met een vast voorzetsel, vaste vergelijkingen en samenstellingen met deze adjectieven vergeleken. De resultaten van het contrastief onderzoek zijn gebaseerd op de extractie van de genoemde woordcombinaties uit de omvangrijkste Nederlandse en Tsjechische geschreven corpora, namelijk uit het Corpus Hedendaags Nederlands en het corpus SYN, versie 10. Uit het corpusonderzoek is gebleken dat een groot aantal collocaties identiek zijn. Er werden echter verschillen in de frequentie van deze collocaties en in de combinatorische mogelijkheden van de adjectieven geconstateerd. Het gebruik van vaste vergelijkingen en van combinaties met een vast voorzetsel is in beide talen vergelijkbaar. De grootste verschillen werden bij de samenstellingen vastgesteld.

This article describes a corpus study that focuses on the similarities and differences in the combinatorial possibilities of the opposite adjectives rijk (rich) and arm (poor) in Dutch and their equivalents bohatý and chudý in Czech. First, special attention is paid to collocations formed with these adjectives and nouns. Next, combinations with a preposition, similes and compounds with these adjectives are compared. The results of this contrastive research are based on the extraction of the aforementioned word combinations from the most extensive Dutch and Czech written corpora, namely the Corpus Hedendaags Nederlands and the SYN, version 10 corpus. This corpus study shows that a large number of collocations are identical. However, differences were found in the frequency of these collocations and in the combinatorial possibilities of the adjectives. The use of similes and combinations with a fixed preposition is comparable in both languages. The biggest differences were observed in the case of compounds.
