10. evropská konference o afrických studiích (European Conference on African Studies), ECAS2025 se konala 25.–28. června 2025 v Praze. Jedná se o bienální mezinárodní akademickou konferenci pořádanou sítí AEGIS (Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies), kterou v roce 2025 pořádala Česká asociace pro africká studia ve spolupráci s Univerzitou Palackého v Olomouci jako partnerem. ECAS je nejprestižnějším a nejvýznamnějším evropským kongresem afrických studií, poprvé se konala v zemích V4. Konference měla celkem 253 panelů, 1350 účastníků z toho 900 prezentujících a navštívili ji účastníci z více než 40 zemí reprezentujících především Afriku, Evropu, Severní Ameriku. Konference se uskutečnila na půdě Univerzity Karlovy a dalších pražských akademických institucí a přivítala výzkumníky, odborníky z celého světa. Hlavní téma ročníku bylo „African, Afropean, and Afropolitan Belongings and Identities“, které se zaměřovalo na komplexní otázky identity, přináležitosti a trans-národních vazeb souvisejících s Afrikou a africkými diasporami. Program zahrnoval kromě stovky panelů, prezentací, plenárních a tematických sekcí také bohatý doprovodný kulturní program a tři doprovodná diskuzní fóra: Sahel Forum – How the Sahel Communicates (26. června 2025): diskusní fórum zaměřené na komunikaci v Sahelu a mediální prostředí v regionu, dále Czech Nonprofits in Africa: Achievements, Lessons and Challenges (26. června 2025)Fórum s příspěvky českých neziskovek o jejich praxi v Africe, krátkými filmy a diskuzí, dále Europe-Africa Discussion Forum, (26. června 2025)Diskuze o partnerství Evropy a Afriky, zahrnující témata klimatu, udržitelnosti a spolupráce s Evropskou komisí.Doprovodný kulturní program ECAS 2025, který vhodně doplnil akademickou část konference a otevřel ji širší veřejnosti zahrnoval dokumentární i hrané africké filmy s debatami, fotografické a výtvarné výstavy zaměřené na současná africká témata (klima, migrace, každodennost, vizuální kultura) a několik večerních koncertů a divadelních performance. Kulturní akce se konaly v pražských galeriích, muzeích a univerzitních prostorech a vytvářely prostor pro dialog mezi akademiky, umělci, studenty, neziskovým sektorem i veřejností. V rámci doprovodného kulturního programu ECAS 2025 proběhlo celkem 5 filmových projekcí, 3 výstavy a 3 hudební koncerty / živá vystoupení a také módní přehlídka Veba Broumov. Do doprovodného programu se zapojili partneři RVS, kino Ponrepo, Francouzský institut, Portugalské centrum Camoes, Náprstkovo muzeum a další.

The 10th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 2025) took place in Prague on 25–28 June 2025. It is a biennial international academic conference organized by the AEGIS network (Africa–Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies), and in 2025 it was hosted by the Czech Association for African Studies in cooperation with Palacký University Olomouc as a partner institution.ECAS is the most prestigious and significant European congress in African Studies and was held in the Visegrád (V4) countries for the first time. The conference featured a total of 253 panels and brought together 1,350 participants, including 900 presenters. Attendees came from more than 40 countries, primarily representing Africa, Europe, and North America.The conference was hosted at Charles University and other academic institutions across Prague, welcoming researchers and experts from around the world. The main theme of the 2025 edition was “African, Afropean, and Afropolitan Belongings and Identities,” focusing on complex questions of identity, belonging, and transnational connections related to Africa and African diasporas.In addition to hundreds of panels, presentations, plenary sessions, and thematic sections, the program included a rich accompanying cultural agenda and three discussion forums:Sahel Forum – How the Sahel Communicates (26 June 2025): a discussion forum focused on communication in the Sahel and the region’s media landscape.Czech Nonprofits in Africa: Achievements, Lessons and Challenges (26 June 2025): a forum featuring contributions from Czech NGOs on their work in Africa, including short films and discussion.Europe–Africa Discussion Forum (26 June 2025): a debate on Europe–Africa partnerships, addressing climate issues, sustainability, and cooperation with the European Commission.The accompanying cultural program of ECAS 2025 complemented the academic part of the conference and opened it to the wider public. It included documentary and feature African films with discussions, photographic and visual art exhibitions focused on contemporary African themes (climate, migration, everyday life, visual culture), as well as several evening concerts and theatrical performances. Cultural events were held in Prague galleries, museums, and university spaces, creating opportunities for dialogue among academics, artists, students, NGOs, and the general public.Altogether, the cultural program comprised five film screenings, three exhibitions, three concerts/live performances, and a fashion show by Veba Broumov. Partners involved in the accompanying program included RVS, Ponrepo Cinema, the French Institute, the Camões Portuguese Centre, the Náprstek Museum, and others.
